What's the date 50 years from today?

Solution

Friday January 18, 2075

0

50 years from today is 18 Jan 2075, a Friday. Counting forward by years is usually simple. Anything under a decade can usually be done on one hand; however, remember that years will change the final date depending on leap years. Since today is Saturday, the calculation could be adjusted for work days. But If you just want the overall days, nothing will change. I usually just start with days of the week then move onto months. We’re 13 days from the end of January, so being in the middle of of the month, 50 days will bring us into February.. From there, we can then count forward by years and adjust for the fiscal calendar to get our 18 Jan 2075.

How we calculated 50 years from today

All of our day calculators are measured and QA'd by our engineer. Read more about the Git process here. But here's how adding 50 years to today's date gets calculated on each visit:

  • Started with date inputs: starting point: 18 Jan, Units to add: 50 years, and year: 2025
  • Noted your current time of year: 13 days in middle of January
  • Added 50 years from current day: 18 Jan, factoring in there are 13 days left in before February
  • Did NOT factor in workdays: In this calculation, we kept weekend. See below for just workdays or the 2025 fiscal calendar.

Ways to calculate 50 years from today

  1. Just calculate it: Start with a time from today calculator. 50 years is easiest solved on a calculator. For ours, we've already factored in the days in + all number of days in each month and the number of days in 2025. Simply add your years and choose the length of time, then click "calculate". This calculation does not factor in workdays or holidays (see below!).
  2. Use January's calendar: Begin by identifying on a calendar, note that it’s Friday, and the total days in February (trust me, you’ll need this for smaller calculations) and days until next year (double trust me, you'll need this for larger calculations). From there, count forward 50 times by years, adding years from 18 Jan.
  3. Use Excel: Regardless of unit type, I use day calculations here. Type =TODAY()+50 into the cell. If you want to add weeks, multiply your day by 7 and months/years will take their own calculation due to the changing days of the week. To find 50 years workdays, convert to days but use =WORKDAY(TODAY(), [number of days], [holidays]) into the cell. [number of days] is how many working days you want to add, and [holidays] is an optional range of cells that contain dates of holidays to exclude.
