Thanksgiving is a holiday that takes place in the United States and Canada to celebrate the harvest and everything people are thankful about from the past year.
From today, 2023-04-01 until Thanksgiving, there are 237 days. That means there are 33.86 weeks, 5688.0 hours, and 8.46 months until then. We use this calculation quite frequently on a calendar even if we don’t realize it. Countdown someone’s birthday, anniversary, or special date is important to order gifts on time! If Thanksgiving is special to you, do your future self a favor and set a calendar reminder for a day before and make it repeating. You’re welcome.

This North American holiday came from the 1621 feast that the British colonists shared with Native Americans after that year’s harvest. It is celebrated every year on the 24th of November in the States, and the second Monday of October in Canada. Thanksgiving sees the reunion of families, all coming together to feast the same way the colonists di d over 400 years ago. The yearly tradition of Black Friday (sales taking place the Friday after thanksgiving) have also spread across the pond to Europe, especially the United Kingdom.
We know that Thanksgiving comes from the feast shared between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans, but there is a lot more history to it. For many years, Thanksgiving was not a national holiday in the states, and it wasn’t a holiday at all in Canada. Before 1863, thanksgiving was celebrated individually in each state or colony across the US on individual days with differing traditions. New York was the first state to officially adopt an annual Thanksgiving holiday, followed by several other states. However, they still celebrated on different days, and the southern states remained unfamiliar with the idea of the Thanksgiving holiday. Sarah Josepha Hale, an author and editor began campaigning for an official national holiday in 1827. It took her 36 years but finally, amidst the height of the civil war, President Lincoln listened and in 1863 established an official national holiday for Thanksgiving. Someone did beat him to it though, Canada established their national thanksgiving holiday in 1859 when Protestant leaders agreed with their government to create a day for giving thanks for the harvest.
Thanksgiving celebrations are truly wonderful, and unfortunately not something I have experienced myself as a Brit. Each year the families of the United States join together for a Turkey dinner, to give thanks for the harvest and well… anything! Everything they have felt thankful for across the year. Parades have become a huge part of thanksgiving celebrations in recent history, most notably the Macy’s department store parade in NYC that’s been taking place since 1924. It is in fact the largest and most famous parade world-wide as it gathers on average 2 to 3 million spectators along a 2.5-mile route. In Canada, they also celebrate with a turkey dinner and giving thanks, however it is less of an occasion and often family won’t all gather together instead having the meal with only their immediate close family.

There are 169 until Thanksgiving.
In the business world, time until a certain date is complete different. Ten business days is two calendar weeks and one month is only twenty days of production. This changes how much time a corporation working off the traditional 9-5 system of time calculation can actually spend on projects or work. This can add a layer of complexity onto time calculations.
An oversimplification of calculating business days until Thanksgiving is counting the number of total days 237 and subtracting the total number of weekends.
