Most countries around the world celebrate New Year’s Eve on 31st December by gathering together to countdown to January 1st – The New Year. These celebrations of a new year have been taking place across different cultures for at least four millennia. In some countries the New Year falls on different days like in China the year begins on the new moon that usually appears between the 20th of January and the 20th of February. And in Thailand they celebrate new year in April. All in all though, the cultures share a similarity between celebrations and that is it’s out with the old and in with the new.
In the modern day most festivities follow the Gregorian calendar and take place on December 31st continuing into the early hours of January 1st. The earliest recorded festivals celebrating the new year happened around 4000 years ago in ancient Babylon. These festivals took place in late March when the first new moon appeared in the night sky. This celebration was a religious festival called Akitu which actually took place across eleven days. So when did January 1st become New Year's Day? It started with the Roman calendar. The Roman’s used a calendar of ten months (304 days) per year. This calendar was created by Romulus, the founder of Rome, around 700 BC, but over many centuries the calendar began to fall out of time with the sun. As such, Roman Emperor Julius Caesar introduced a new Julian calendar which is much more similar to the modern Gregorian calendar. When he created this calendar, he declared New Year’s Day to be January 1st. He decided January 1st as the month of January was named after the Roman God of new beginnings (Janus).
Your average New Year is celebrated by throwing parties with friends and family, event of course being the countdown to midnight when the year begins. All across the world celebrations include singing, dancing, huge fireworks displays, and drinking. If you’re in Spain one of your party snacks will be 12 grapes eaten in quick succession right before midnight, each one giving you good luck in the 12 months of the coming year. Many people create resolutions, a goal (or set of goals) they aim to achieve in the coming year, but you might find yourself often making the same resolutions each New Year’s Eve. These resolutions aren’t a new practice, the ancient Babylonians made promises to earn the favour of the gods in the New Year. Last, but not least, there is the iconic American tradition where the ball is dropped in Time’s Square, millions of people all around the world watch the event that has been taking place almost every year since the early 20th century.

There are 195 until New Year's eve.
In the business world, time until a certain date is complete different. Ten business days is two calendar weeks and one month is only twenty days of production. This changes how much time a corporation working off the traditional 9-5 system of time calculation can actually spend on projects or work. This can add a layer of complexity onto time calculations.
An oversimplification of calculating business days until New Year's eve is counting the number of total days 274 and subtracting the total number of weekends.
