Mother’s Day is a day to – you guessed it – celebrate our mothers! Every year on the second Sunday of May we celebrate the person who brought us into this world.
From today, 2023-04-01 until Mother's day, there are 43 days. That means there are 6.14 weeks, 1032.0 hours, and 1.54 months until then. We use this calculation quite frequently on a calendar even if we don’t realize it. Countdown someone’s birthday, anniversary, or special date is important to order gifts on time! If Mother's day is special to you, do your future self a favor and set a calendar reminder for a day before and make it repeating. You’re welcome.

The American Mother’s Day was created in the early 1900’s when Anna Jarvis created Mother’s Day as a way of honouring the sacrifices mothers have made for their children. Children give cards, flowers, and gifts to their mothers and perhaps make them the classic breakfast in bed. Mother’s Day in the United Kingdom takes place on a different day to the US as it is connected to Easter and the day that Easter is celebrated changes every year. Other countries, such as Ireland and Nigeria, celebrate Mother’s Day on the same day as the UK. The reason Mother’s Day is connected with Easter as in Europe it comes from the Christian holiday Mothering Sunday which falls on the 4th Sunday of Lent.
The contrast between American and European Mother’s Day is quite interesting. As I said, US holiday was created by Anna Jarvis whereas the European holiday stems from the Christian celebration of mothering Sunday. In the US though, Anna Jarvis became unhappy with her own creation after it was commercialised. Mother’s Day became an official US holiday in 1914, after Jarvis denounced the commercialisation of the holiday, she spent the rest of her life trying to get it removed from the official calendar. It was this commercialisation of the day in America that reignited celebrations in Europe as the customs of Mothering Sunday began to lose popularity until they merged with United States idea of gift giving. Mother’s Day itself may not have entirely been an American and European/Christian creation; if we look back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, we can see that they celebrated mothers by holding festivals in honour of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele.
As an Englishman, I celebrate Mother’s Day by simply going home to see my mother. Traditions and ways to celebrate are quite simple, I travel home to visit my mum and for the day I take on the roles that she once had for me. I will cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as performing other household chores such as laundry and mowing the lawn. I know many people who celebrate the same way, we simply give our mothers the day off as a way of saying thank you for all the work it took to raise us. Of course, there are cards and gift giving, and being a country boy me and my mum often take the dogs for a walk across the fields on Mother’s Day.

There are 30 until Mother's day.
In the business world, time until a certain date is complete different. Ten business days is two calendar weeks and one month is only twenty days of production. This changes how much time a corporation working off the traditional 9-5 system of time calculation can actually spend on projects or work. This can add a layer of complexity onto time calculations.
An oversimplification of calculating business days until Mother's day is counting the number of total days 43 and subtracting the total number of weekends.
